Utah Valley Edition - Fun Dating Ideas

Cheap date ideas, Utah Valley
Who could resist the allure of the Utah Valley style of dating? Regardless of your answer, check out these area-specific activities before you leave. You may recognize some of these "BYU" traditional dates such as the marshmallow roasting on the bell tower lights. Let me know if you know any other fun dating ideas that have that sort of charm that make you say "You have to do this before you leave BYU".
  • Make little boats out of paper or aluminum foil and race them down a body of water. The new canal on the south side of campus is a fun place to do this. If you use paper, use crayons to color and decorate your vessel (the wax makes it waterproof too!)
  • Go to an awesome playground and play on the swings and monkey-bars. I suggest one not very well known so nobody else is around, or the one behind Wal-Mart in Orem. Trust me, it's an amazingly fun dating idea.
  • During Christmastime, drive around and look at the lights that people have put up. Temple Square obviously has lots of lights, and Thanksgiving Point often has a lot of lights set up as well.
  • Buy some ice blocks and go to Rock Canyon Park and slide down the hills while riding them
  • Hike to Fifth Water Hot Springs. It's in Diamond Fork Canyon which is up Spanish Fork Canyon. Google it for directions. I think it's like a mile and a half hike.
  • At night, go to a cave (perhaps in Rock Canyon Park), bring a lot of glow-sticks with old clothing, and break them and throw the glowing liquid at each other. Bring music for some psychedelic dancing fun!
  • Go to a museum such as the Bean Museum near the Marriott Center. Every night at 7:30 they have free live animal shows.
  • Have a dinner on the elevator of the SWKT. Take note of the looks you get from people when the door opens and you're enjoying a candlelit dinner with your date.
  • A bonfire up the canyon while cooking dinner in a Dutch oven
  • Roast marshmallows and have s'mores using the heat from the lights near the bell tower. (Use aluminum foil on the lights)
  • Karaoke! Callie's Cafe (in Orem) every Friday night, Guru's (Provo) every Saturday night, Sammy's (Provo) every Thursday night, or Applebee's (Orem) every Tuesday night. This is a really fun dating idea for those that are comfortable with it, note that some people may not feel comfortable doing this though.
  • Go rollerblading along the Provo River Trail. It's great if you time it out to end up watching the sunset over Utah Lake.
  • For you "on-campus" lovers, the Museum of Art (MOA) is a free, fun time for all.
  • Play tennis ball golf on campus. Basically you take turns throwing a tennis ball towards a destination. Make it fun by having it necessary to bounce the ball off walls and sides of buildings onto ledges and such.
  • The Nickelcade in Provo is a really cheap arcade. Where else could you "win" 1300 tickets and buy yourself a brand new tootsie pop?
  • Classic skating on State Street in Orem for the roller-skating aficionados out there. ps-that means people who love roller-skating :)
